Hello this is SALT CO., LTD. a specialized manufacturer of material testing machines.

Today, we would like to share information about the international standard ISO 6383-1.

[What is ISO 6383-1:2015?]

This standard defines a specific testing method used to measure the hardness of plastic films or sheets. Hardness measurement is one of the surface characteristics of films or sheets, indicating the material's firmness or softness.

Specifically, it provides standard testing methods to determine the melt mass-flow rate (MFR) and melt volume-flow rate (MVR) of thermoplastic materials.

This standard is employed to evaluate the melt flow characteristics of thermoplastic materials under specific temperature and load conditions.

MFR and MVR are crucial indicators providing information about the processability and potential applications of thermoplastic materials.

Testing Method:

Plastic films or sheets with a thickness of less than 1mm (made of materials that do not break during testing, either amorphous or crystalline films and sheets).

Rectangular-shaped specimens in the form of standard trouser legs.

Testing Procedure:

Essentially, the specimen is delicately clamped at both ends, aligning the specimen's centerline with the center of the grips.

The test involves pulling the specimen at a constant speed until it fractures. The load is recorded while the entire non-cut area of the specimen undergoes elongation during the progression of tearing.

The average force required to completely tear the specimen in the length direction is used to calculate the specimen's resistance value.
