C39 Compressive Strength Test of Cylindrical Concrete Specimen
ASTM C39 deals with the measurement of compressive strength of cylindrical concrete specimens such as molded cylinders and perforated cores.
This standard controls
the quality of concrete proportions and mixtures used in road pavement,
bridges, and other concrete structures for various purposes.

Example
[Sample
Preperation]
Concrete samples and molds are hardened into cylinders at inervals of 24 hours to 90 days. You can also drill through cores used to test the strength of newly finished concrete structures or structures showing signs of distress. ASTM C39 specifies that sample measurements are taken at three locations and the data is calculated and recorded. Specimens should be carefully set to align properly with the load axis.
A specimen break occurs in shear mode between center notches.
