ASTM C170 Compressive Strength of Dimension Stone

Granite, Limestone, Marble, Sandstone, ETC.

Stones used in the construction industry require durability testing.

ASTM C170 describes a test method for determining the difference in compressive strength of various rocks, including granite, limestone, marble and sandstone.

The requirements of the ASTM C170 for determining the compressive strength of rocks include the following mechanical specifications and specimen preparation.

 ?

Equipment

Any machine that meets the ASTM E100 fixture specimen centering function with a load rate not exceeding 4 PSI/sec

Test piece

Cube or cylinder with diameter or side dimensions greater than 2 inches

Measurement specimen

At least 5 specimens to be tested for each test condition (dry or wet)

Dimension stone samples can be tested in both dry and wet conditions

Dry sample

48 hours at 140 ± 140???? Fahrenheit

Wet sample

72±448 48 hours of wet specimen
