SCOPE

 

ASTM D 2344 specifies testing method for determining the short-beam strength of high-modulus fiber-reinforced composite materials.

 

 

SPECIMEN

 

Short beam specimen machined from a curved or a flat laminate up to 6mm (0.25 in) thick.

 

Recommended specimen geometries

Specimen length = thickness x 6

Specimen width, b = thickness x 2.0

Figure 5 jig is used for curved beams.

Upper punch is a Ø6.

 

 

 

Lower free sliding bases are able to slide freely on rollers when force is applied on it.

The rollers and the base are held by springs allowing the base to slide back in to position (12mm apart).

Figure 6 jig is used for flat laminates.

Upper punch is a Ø6. Lower rollers are Ø3 and Ø6.

 

Salt version of ASTM D 2344 jig comes with 2 size rollers which you will be able to use the jigs more variety of tests.
