Identation Hardness & Load Deflection of Expanded Cellular Materials
ISO 2439, ISO 3386, ASTM D5672, ASTM D3574 - Compression and indentation tests for foam, flexible cellular plastic, polymeric materials etc.
Standard
The standards listed above all cover similar foam or flexible cellular materials and tests the compressive properties of these materials. ISO 2439 measures and tests indentation hardness, compressive deflective coefficient and hystersis loss rate while ASTM 3574 lists density test, IFD (Indentation force deflection), Indentation residual gage load etc. For most of these tests a "preload" or initial load/displacement is required and the software must draw a hysteresis for determination of change between the first compressive cycle and second compressive cycle. For more information please refer to the specific standard.
Accessory
IFD/ILD Testing on ST-1001 UTM
The compression plates required for the standards require specific size and build. The base or lower compression plate is to be larger than the sample and perforated with approximately 6.5-mmholes on approximately 20-mm centers to allow for rapidescape of air during the test. For ISO 2439 and ASTM D3574 The indentor or upper compression plate shall be flat and circular, with a diameter of 200 or 203mm on a swivel ball joint.
